This is another Elizabeth Farnsworth introduction for me. I love this one - the lyrics are just amazing...
What are we to give to the Lord? How can we ever express adequately our gratitude and humility at all He has done for us? How can we really let Him know how much we love Him? How much we rely on Him? All of our feeble efforts seem vain and petty...
Yet we know that they are not. We CAN give an acceptable gift to the Lord. It is nothing short of our broken heart and contrite spirit. That is what is acceptable to the Lord. He does not want anything more or less.
Lyrics:
What shall we give to the babe in the manger,
What shall we offer the child in the stall?
Are these the gifts for the king of us all?
What shall we give to the boy in the temple,
What shall we offer the man by the sea?
Palms at his feet and hosannas uprising;
Are these for him who will carry the tree?
What shall we give to the lamb who was offered,
Rising the third day and shedding his love?
Tears for his mercy we'll weep at the manger,
Bathing the infant come down from above.
