In the last chapter of Thessalonians, Paul asks for prayers in his behalf and in behalf of those who are his companions. They are often in places where the crowds are hostile and argumentative. They also must travel through perilous country, both on land and on the sea. But they feel the burning fire in their bones to share that light and knowledge that comes through the Gospel.
Our leaders need our support. They offer everything they have for the Kingdom of God, working tirelessly and relentlessly for our salvation and continuance. They are not perfect - they would be the first to acknowledge that - but they are doing their absolute best. Their thoughts are only ever of us, their prayers directed to us in our behalf. And their love is for the Lord and for us. We owe these men our deference and our love for their callings, their willingness, and their service. As we learn to follow them, we learn to follow the Lord.
We ever pray for thee
Our prophet dear
That God will give to thee
Comfort and cheer
As the advancing years
Furrow thy brow
Still may the light within
Shine bright as now
